High level overview of SIXG approach and architecture.
SIXG (Serverless Infrastructure for neXt-Generation 6G Networks) is a European initiative that is building a real-time serverless computing framework for 6G. The goal is to run AI-native services across the cloud-edge-network continuum with predictable latency, elastic scaling, and stronger security.
Future 6G applications—connected mobility, industrial automation, and immersive systems—need near-instant execution, fast data movement, and dynamic resource allocation. Traditional container-based approaches often introduce cold-start delays and operational overhead. SIXG advances a serverless approach designed for real-time operation, including:
- Real-time elastic data streaming to connect functions with low overhead
- Instant-start WebAssembly runtimes for fast function execution
- Deep Data Plane (DDP) for in-network telemetry and acceleration
- AI-driven orchestration for cross-layer optimization and resilience
- On-demand O-RAN slicing to provision radio/network capabilities when and where needed
SIXG is designed as a cross-layer system:
Software Layer: real-time data streaming + WebAssembly serverless runtime for AI-ready pipelines.
Infrastructure Layer: a programmable Deep Data Plane with DPUs/switches, in-network telemetry, and acceleration.
Control & Learning Plane: AI-driven optimization for function placement, traffic steering, and fast recovery.
As a partner in SIXG, HIVE contributes expertise in ADAS, V2X integration, and edge AI orchestration. Next-generation ADAS will increasingly rely on cooperative and connected intelligence—combining on-board perception with edge and network resources for low-latency decision-making.
- Cooperative perception between vehicles and roadside infrastructure
- Real-time edge AI deployment for perception workloads under dynamic conditions
- Resilience mechanisms such as fast failover and service migration for safety-critical services
- End-to-end performance for ADAS pipelines in next-generation network environments
SIXG supports the transition from static infrastructure to elastic, event-driven 6G systems. For HIVE, this project strengthens our ability to deliver real-time AI services for mobility—bridging vehicle, edge, and network to enable safer and more scalable ADAS capabilities.
